Cody's vision of tackling the big problems of making polluting industries such as fertilizer and cement manufacture truly "green" began in grad school at Caltech. After receiving his Ph.D. in 2019, he launched Brimstone Energy (now Brimstone) with his partner Hugo Leandri on little money but lots of passion. Together they assembled a team and developed The Brimstone ProcessTM for making carbon negative cement. Last year, Brimstone secured a $55 million investment from top investors, including Breakthrough Energy Ventures but not without a lot of the sweat equity and discouraging setbacks.
